More than 900 guests rubbed shoulders with an all-star lineup of past and present Chicago sports greats at the inaugural Champions for Children’s to benefit Children’s Memorial, held November 19, 2009 at the Palmer House Hilton. Guests made a difference in the life of a child by joining Major League Baseball pitcher and Chicagoan Kerry Wood, his wife Sarah, Chicago’s very own Jim Belushi as Master of Ceremonies and Children’s Memorial Hospital as we celebrate the inaugural Champions for Children’s event Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago. This new marquee event was created to highlight Chicago’s sports teams who have shown tremendous support of the patients and families served at Children’s Memorial Hospital. Individual athletes and sports world notables who represent the importance of giving back to their community will also be spotlighted.

Champions for Children’s was an exciting, active and memorable evening for all. Highlights included:

  • Interactive entertainment that allows guests to go one-on-one with some of Chicago’s brightest past and present sports stars, with “old school” fast pitch lanes and Pop-a-Shots, as well as other fun games and experiences
  • Spirited competition in a one-of-a-kind, high-end silent auction using state-of-the-art hand-held technology for real-time bidding excitement
  • Entertainment including the first-ever “Kids Choice” sports awards, voted on by the patients at Children’s Memorial, as well as sports trivia contests and a rousing halftime show
  • Presentation of the Champions for Children’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Chicago White Sox and Bulls owner, Jerry Reinsdorf
  • And much more!
